Frisian Valentine




Happy Valentines everybody!❤️❤️❤️ Have a great day! And please remember this is a day not only for romantic love. All kinds of love and friendships deserve to be celebrated too! So to make sure you get the message, here is my Valentine gift to you! Feel free to take a screenshot, download, or whatever. Big virtual hugs from Norway!

This pattern is designed by me. It is done on 28 count un-bleached linen with DMC Perle Cotton no 5. The colours are hot pink variegated thread no 4200, medium pink no 894 and peach no754. Please feel free to use whatever colours you like! I do me, you do you ❤️

For this pattern you need to know satin stitch, whipped back-stitch, eyelets over six threads and Algerian eyelets over four threads.

Work the square first, stopping at the corners to do swirls and eyelets. Work the large star n the middle and all the hearts along the outside of the square. Do the remaining swirls and finish the rest of the eyelets

My very first pattern! I have no idea what I’m doing 😂 Please feel free to give me some feedback, good or bad. She is very good!  You will need a piece of 11/28 count evenweave linen, four colours of DMC Cotton Perle no 5 or similar thread, a no 24 tapestry needle and a hoop. The finished embroidery will measure 9cm/3.5inch, so the hoop must be at least 12cm/5inch. The Gumnut Silk threads I have used are off-white 923, blue 328, green 645 and dark green 557. Beaded Hardanger, the basics

Beaded Hardanger is something I’ve worked on for quite some time. I wasn’t far into my Hardanger journey before the idea of replacing the picot with a bead happened. But I wasn’t at a skill level where I knew how to go about it.  You want to embroider without having to switch needles all the time so the trick is to match up your thread and needle to the beads. The limit you have is the size of the hole in the bead, because your needle needs to pass through not only once but twice. This means you also have to figure out which thread will fit your needle. Too thick for the eye and you’ll go nowhere. Which again means you will have to consider what kind of thread count you can use. It’s like a game of Dominoes really. For my beaded Hardanger jewellery I’ve used a no 28 John James tapestry needle, DMC Special Dentelles no 80, size 11 and 15 Toho beads and 40 count linen.
